According to the firm, U.S. online sales for 2005 will show a 25% increase over 2004. According to Goldman, Sachs & Co./Nielsen//Net Ratings and Harris Interactive, from October 29 to December 23, online holiday shopping, exclusive of travel, totaled $30.1 billion.
Top five categories of sales were apparel and clothing at $5.3 billion, up 42% year over year; computer hardware and peripherals up 126% at $4.8 billion; consumer electronics at $4.8 billion grew 109%; books grew 66% to $3.0 billion; while toys and video games declined 9% from 2004, to $2.3 billion.
