It's time to make plans now for largest and most comprehensive handling and logistics show the United States. ProMat 2005, an international exposition sponsored by the Material Handling Industry of America, will be held January 10-13 at McCormick Place South, Chicago.

ProMat offers 70 free show-floor seminars and a free executive forum titled Supply Chain Pioneers: Managing Risk, Realizing the Rewards. The exposition is designed to offer productivity solutions and information by showcasing the products and services of 750 material handling and logistics providers.

To make it easier for attendees to find the solutions they need, the show floor is divided into four solution-specific sections: Equipment & Components for Manufacturing Solutions; Fulfillment & Delivery Solutions; Information Technology (IT) Solutions; and Assembly Logistics & Support Solutions.

The 300,000-square-foot show floor will showcase solutions by providers of material handling and logistics equipment and systems; packaging, containers and shipping equipment; inventory management and control technologies; dock and warehouse equipment and supplies; consultants and distribution system planners; and automatic identification equipment and systems.

A new feature will be a 25,000-squarefoot RFID Knowledge Center detailing the latest developments, technology, strategies and trends for those facing the challenge of deploying radio frequency identification (RFID) into their supply chain. Driven by initiatives from Wal-Mart, the Department of Defense, Target and many others, RFID technology is widely recognized as the ultimate step in supply chain management.

The center will showcase RFID in a multimedia setting with three video presentations, informational kiosks, RFID sponsor booths and other presentations that will provide in-depth information about the various aspects of design, testing and implementation of RFID.

In addition to the seminars, weekend workshops (Saturday and Sunday, January 8-9) provide comprehensive coverage of traditional subject matter as well as leading-edge topics related to implementing lean supply chains, the concept of true accounting and realizing an organization's full performance. Separate registration and workshop fees apply.

A 3-day short course titled Strategic Planning of Supply Chain Facilities will show step-by-step how to successfully plan major capital investments. Richard Muther and Lee Hales of Richard Muther & Associates, and Mike Jones of St. Onge Company will lead this classroom-style course.

The U.S. Department of Commerce has designated ProMat an official International Buyer Program event. Through the International Vision Center, buyers and sellers from around the world are brought together. Interpreters and meeting facilities are available to representatives from more than 80 countries.

The Knowledge Portal is designed to educate, provide benchmarking and research services, and introduce industry resources available to attendees before, during and after the show. Trade associations, publications and free seminars extend the value of the event.
