Located near the UPS Worldport global air hub, its new facility is able to ship orders received as late as 11 pm to arrive the next day. Largest UPS healthcare distribution center in its system, the facility was built to comply with the U.S. Federal Prescription Drug Marketing Act and other state and federal regulations.
The building is divided into temperature-controlled and ambient sections. It is designed to handle sensitive pharmaceuticals. In addition to distribution of over-the-counter and prescription drugs, the facility is set up to deliver to mass market retailers, pharmacies, healthcare facilities and consumers other medical products and equipment.
As part of the U.S. Customs & Border Patrol (CBP) Automated Commercial Environment (ACE) is an electronic manifest for trucks that replaces paper and eases border crossings. UPS is one of the first carriers to implement the process.
With ACE, UPS sends CBP information electronically that contains shipment information, details on the vehicle being used for transport and about the driver. Since these details reach the border before the vehicle, shipments not selected for inspection that comply with existing laws may be expedited through the border.
