Profits at shipping and logistics company Maersk reached 1,725 million Euros; ($2,089 million) in the first half on strong demand for capacity driven by the Chinese market, said a report by U.K.-based Transport Intelligence. While strong demand will drive the carrier’s prices, it also affected costs of additional charter capacity Maersk required to meet the demand.
Maersk added two container vessels over the last year and chartered a number of new-build container vessels to supplement short-term capacity needs. The carrier also acquired a number of newly built dry and refrigerated containers.
It’s logistics division also showed gains, though the carrier did not break out those results separately.
