Regional less-than-truckload (LTL) carrier Con-Way Transportation Services claimed to be the first to offer a no-charge transit-time guarantee on all shipments moving under the current version of its Tariff CNWY-599. The service covers all points served direct by Con-Way in the United States and Canada. If the delivery is not completed within the published transit time, Con-Way says the shipper would receive a complete payback of all linehaul charges, including fuel surcharges.

Almost simultaneously, FedEx Freight announced it would provide LTL shippers with the same type of money-back delivery guarantee offered by FedEx Express and FedEx Ground. The guarantee would be offered at no additional cost.

USF Corp. announced shippers using its USF Premier regional service would be able to use the USF Guaranteed 4 Free on-time guarantee at no cost. Regional shipments will be delivered on time or USF will cancel the freight charges, according to the carrier.

FedEx Freight and USF begin their programs on September 15th. The Con-Way program begins with shipments tendered on or after October 1st. Applicable terms and conditions are contained in carrier tariffs or documents at the individual carrier Web sites.
