The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) said that various contractors and potential contractors to the Department of Transportation (DOT) had received fraudulent letters requesting they register in the Department of Defense (DOD) Central Contractor Registration System. DOT said it does not require confidential information to verify registration with the DOD system and urged companies receiving such requests to verify they are dealing with a legitimate DOT official before providing any confidential information.

NITL reported letters were dated on or about December 19, 2005 and were signed by Frank M. Orell with a signature block indicating he was “senior procurement officer.” The group stressed anyone receiving such a request should not fill out the attached worksheet.
