Under the awarded contract, which runs April through September, Bennett will manage a host of subcontractors to relocate the Ordnance Munitions and Electronic Maintenance School (OMEMS) at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Ala. to two locations in Virginia. As the prime contractor, Bennett will provide integrated Fourth Party Logistics (4PL) services encompassing shipment planning, execution and overall transportation management for the relocation.
"With over nine million pounds of freight, this BRAC project is one of the largest in the nation, and it will require a full-array of integrated supply chain competencies, capabilities and resources to provide the OMEMS with seamless and uninterrupted class schedules,” said Charles Phillips, vice president, Bennett International Logistics. "We've assembled a team of 'best in class' companies to include heavy and specialized transporters, office and industrial movers, and riggers to ensure the OMEMS training missions are met as planned."
The Redstone Arsenal OMEMS project is among the largest BRAC contracts the SDDC has awarded to Bennett. Bennett recently served as the prime contractor to relocate the Naval Aerospace Research Medical Laboratory from Naval Air Station Pensacola, Florida to Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio.
Bennett Motor Express will provide most of the heavy and specialized freight transportation for the OMEMS move including flatbed, step deck, and multi-axle trailers for heavy and over-dimensional freight.
