Based in Akron, IA, Heyl operates a fleet of 300 satellite-equipped tractors hauling freight across the United States and Canada. The carrier has terminals in Sioux Falls, SD; Zephyrhills, FL; and Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Most Heyl fleet drivers operate “pro-sleeper” or “condo cab” Freightliner, Volvo, and International tractors, says the company. The tractors are satellite equipped with the Geologic Solutions Communication System.

XATA Navigation, powered by ALK CoPilot Truck, in its trucks enabled with new TREQ color display units (CDUs) The system provides Heyl drivers with spoken, turn-by-turn directions, as well as with way points for fuel stops. Leveraging the TREQ CDU will also enable spoken messages to drivers, allowing them to keep their eyes on the road for increased safety. Additionally, if a driver misses a turn, XATA Navigation will immediately re-route them, without the need to download new instructions from a server.
