The National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO) and the Crane Manufacturers Association of America (CMAA) have released a new certification program for operators of overhead cranes. "This program is a first of its kind in the U.S. and is molded on the certification program we have developed for other types of cranes," explains Graham J. Brent, NCCCO executive director. "The program will provide effective performance standards for crane operators and will provide a fair, independent and reliable assessment of operator knowledge and skill." The test, which has been in development since 2003, will certify operators of caboperated or floor-and pendant-operated five-ton cranes with three powered functions.
