Perceptics will help the CBSA upgrade technology and equip additional inbound traffic lanes to the US for its Integrated Primary Inspection Line Highway License Plate Reader program. The license plate reader will read the license plate number--including stacked characters common on commercial plates--identify the province or state of origin, compress the image, and display important information instantly for Border Services officers. Vehicles with a clear record of lawful trade and travel will go through quickly, says Perceptics. Those vehicles of concern can be detained for proper clearance.
The announcement comes at the same time the US Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) said it would track Mexican trucks participating in a cross-border trucking program. FMCSA reportedly will issue a contract to provide satellite-tracking technology to monitor safety compliance and potential violations of cabotage rules.
