The Supply Chain Council announced its annual global ward for supply chain excellence was presented to the United States Transportation Command. The group also received the award fro Supply Chain Operational Excellence. In the category, Supply Chain Management Technology Excellence, Clear Orbit was recognized.
Part of the Department of Defense, the US Transportation Command (USTC) supports the synchronization of land, air and sea transportation in both peace and war. To improve the effectiveness and optimally support warfighter needs, USTC had to align interdependent yet disparate enterprise architectures of all partners worldwide. It developed a common architecture in just three months that resulted in clear linkages, increased visibility and process improvement. The resulting collaboration eliminated architecture redesign and reduced future spending by millions of dollars, said the Supply Chain Council in its announcement.
ClearOrbit, a supply chain software company, was recognized for automating materials replenishment and reducing spending on maintenance repair and operations (MRO) material by connectiong more than 1,800 suppliers for a major automotive original-equipment manufacturer (OEM). Completed in six weeks, the project resulted in a 33% reduction in the supply base and allowed employees to eliminate non-value activities by an average of 35%.
Second-place recognition went to Hewlett-Packard for technology excellence and Motorola and the Defense logistics Agency for operational excellence.
