Brinks has finally confirmed the sale of BAX Global – pending governmental approval, it retains ownership of the Air Transport International LLC subsidiary -- to Deutsche Bahn AG for $1.1 billion, all in cash. Brinks says the move is strategically important, allowing it to concentrate solely on its security business.
Old Dominion Freight Line, Inc. has purchased Salt Lake City-based UW Freight Line, a less than truckload (LTL) carrier. UW Freight has 18 service centers, an additional center under construction and an inland port. With the acquisition, Old Dominion will now extend its geographic coverage with direct coverage for the first time to Idaho and Wyoming. Operating in 46 states, Old Dominion will not have full-state coverage in 37 states, additionally including Colorado, Nevada and Utah.
Joining last year’s acquisitions of Marc Largent (Los Angeles) and Diamond Logistics (Houston) under the Mason Dixon Intermodal subsidiary of Universal Truckload, are Assure Intermodal (Memphis) and DiJulio Enterprises (Seattle). Together the four companies have six terminals in Texas, Tennessee, California and Washington in addition to two full service storage, repair and maintenance facilities. Prior to the acquisitions, Universal’s primary coverage was in the Eastern and Midwestern U.S.
