The International Association of Refrigerated Warehouses (IARW) has released its annual IARW Global Top 25 List of the public refrigerated warehouses (PRWs) with the greatest capacity of warehouse space in the world. Accompanying the Global Top 25 is the IARW North American Top 20 List.
The IARW Global Top 25 List, highlighting the largest international PRW companies, has been expanded from 20 companies to 25 companies this year, according to IARW.

“Our membership is rapidly growing around the world,” said Bill Hudson, IARW president and CEO. “We expanded our international list to better reflect the breadth of global companies and facilities we represent.” The Global Top 25 includes PRW companies from Australia, Canada, China, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Norway, Sweden, Vietnam, and the United States.
The combined space of IARW’s total membership, including the Global Top 25 members and the North American Top 20, saw an 18% increase from the same time last year, operating approximately 3.7 billion cubic feet (more than 104 million cubic meters). The Global Top 25 operates 2.7 billion cubic feet (76.3 million cubic meters) and the North American Top 20 operates 2.2 billion cubic feet (62.5 million cubic meters).
The totals are significantly higher than last year due to industry growth and IARW effort to build membership and develop key partnerships. Millard Refrigerated Services, one of the largest refrigerated warehouse and distribution companies in the United States, has joined IARW. Included in Millard’s IARW Membership are 35 facilities and 275 million cubic feet (7,787,120 million cubic meters) of public refrigerated warehouse space. In addition, IARW partnered with Australia’s Refrigerated Warehouse and Transport Association (RWTA) in 2007. Through a special Affiliate Partner agreement, members of RWTA receive select IARW membership benefits and are counted as members of IARW.

The 2009 Global Cold Chain Directory will be available — free of charge — to food manufacturers, grocers, food service employees, trucking companies, and others working in the cold chain in March 2009.
