China to US Ocean Transit Times Guaranteed

April 8, 2009
Old Dominion Freight Line and Hanjin Logistics are now offering a joint guaranteed less transit time less-than-container load (LCL) service.

Called Pacific Promise, the service provides standard guaranteed transit times and simplified rates from three Chinese ports—Shanghai, Shenzhen and Hong Kong—to any point in the US after passing through the Ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles. .

Shippers can use either Hanjin’s (http://www.hanjinlogistics.com) or Old Dominion’s (http://www.odfl.com) web sites to check rates, create booking and track delivery from the port to the final customer. The carriers explain that rates are expressed as a simple single rate per cubic meter they claim is slightly greater than standard LCL.

Rod Miller, Hanjin Logistics managing director, notes that, “Customers will be able to shave 10-plus days off their standard LCL transit times using Pacific Promise. Based on our conversations with our customers, we believe the need for this type of product spans many types of importers.”

From the Old Dominion perspective, ““The new joint service harnesses the combined strengths of the Old Dominion network in North America with the Hanjin Logistics infrastructure in Asia and the capability of an industry-leading shipping company, Hanjin Shipping,” observes Greg Plemmons, Old Dominion Global vice president. “Pacific Promise is about velocity and predictability for our customers who are sourcing products in China. They will be able to remove days and dollars from their supply chain while placing their products on US shelves sooner.”
