MONTGOMERYVILLE, PA. – Philadelphia Scientific, a leading international manufacturer of industrial battery components, accessories and tools, has introduced its new Deionizer System for use in watering industrial batteries. The new Deionizer is battery powered, providing greater convenience and flexibility when installing the system in a warehouse environment. It also is equipped with an improved purity light, which flashes green when the Deionizer cartridge is of sufficient purity and red when the cartridge needs to be replaced. When the light is not illuminated, it is an indication that the batteries should be replaced or that there is a power problem.
Battery water should be free from metallic impurities because they can affect cell voltages and increase self discharge. Calcium and magnesium found in hard water can cause mossing and dendrite growth through the battery plate separators. These impurities cannot be removed by conventional filters, and the results of such impurities in industrial batteries are unreliable performance and reduced battery life.
The traditional method to avoid water impurities is to use distilled water. The Philadelphia Scientific Deionizer eliminates the high price of buying bottled distilled water and is more convenient. Each disposable cartridge purifies about 600 gallons of water. The Deionizer is pressurized and can be used directly with battery watering guns such as the Philadelphia Scientific Battery Watering Gun.
Two standard D-cell batteries, which will last for two years, are included with the Deionizer. An AC plug also is available and is sold separately. Replacement cartridges are available and can be installed in seconds without any tools. Exhausted cartridges are nontoxic and can be safely disposed of.
