Exel, a leader in supply chain management, announced the availability of Supply Chain Vector: Methods for Linking Execution of Global Business Models with Financial Performance, a book authored by Dan Gardner, Exel's president in Latin America.
The 16-chapter manuscript, which combines theory and frontline practice, creates clear links between supply chain tactics and financial performance. It focuses on the relationships between lead time, landed costs, inventory levels and the results found in the income statement, balance sheet and cash flow statement as key elements for long-term success.
While the book emphasizes the role of individual departments, it defines supply chain management as the holistic blending of functional areas and the collective impact all areas have on the value proposition of the organization, Gardner said.
"Although firmly embedded in the lexicon of international trade, supply chain management cannot be considered a legitimate business discipline until quantitative links are created between operational execution and financial results," he added. "As much a business philosophy as a methodology, the globalization of supply chain management practices is perhaps the most relevant topic in business today.
"With increasing pressure on landed costs, lead time and inventory levels, the financial success of today's international companies relies on the ability to take strategies to a tactical level."
In addition to his current responsibilities with Exel, Gardner is an adjunct faculty member of both the University of Miami and Florida International University Graduate Business Schools where he is a professor of Global Logistics and Supply Chain Management.
Supply Chain Vector, which is published by J. Ross Publishing, may be purchased online at www.jrosspub.com. The current retail price is $54.95.
