BRENTWOOD, Tenn.—Terrence Alexander is this year’s winner of the Top Gun Competition for lift truck drivers, presented by OHL, a 3PL.
A 17-year OHL tradition, the competition offers OHL lift truck drivers throughout the U.S. the opportunity to compete with one another to determine who has the most skill, precision and expertise. This year, there were more than 250 participants from 13 states.
Alexander competed with 17 fellow lift truck drivers at the competition finals in Nashville to earn the Top Gun title. The competition consisted of a written test, lift truck inspection and completion of an obstacle course. Contestants were given points based on knowledge, safety, skill and ability.
Drivers completed tasks such as moving a table set with china and champagne glasses and balancing a beam on a small stand. While time was a factor in determining the winner, the tasks primarily tested skill and precision. As the Top Gun champion, Alexander received a leather bomber jacket, a $1,000 cash prize and the title as this year's champion. He works in OHL's McDonough, Ga., location and has been with the company for nine years.
David Claybrooke, director of training at OHL, had been responsible for the competition for the past 10 years. Claybrooke recently retired and handed over responsibility to Steve Zewicky, area manager in Old Hickory, Tenn, who has been with the company for 30 years. Sadly, shortly after retiring, David Claybrooke passed away at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville, Tenn.
