FloraCraft Corporation (Ludington, Mich.) has implemented a joint mobile computing solution developed by Psion Teklogix (Mississauga, Ont.) and Interlink Technologies (Atlanta, Ga.). The new system replaces FloraCraft's paper-based warehouse management system, enhancing the company's real-time visibility in its warehouse and increasing inventory accuracy.
FloraCraft, the world's largest fabricator of Styrofoam-brand products for the arts, crafts and floral industry is using WHSe-LINK, Interlink Technologies' warehouse management software and Psion Teklogix' rugged 7535 handheld devices, to keep track of products in its three-storey, 250,000 sq.-ft. warehouse. The new solution is helping FloraCraft decrease the time it takes to track inventory and improve accuracy.
"With our manual process, the biggest challenges were lack of warehouse organization and real-time visibility," said Steve Carlson, director, FloraCraft. "We strive to be the market leader in supply chain management to benefit our key customers and with the new mobile computing system we are seeing significantly improved data collection and more accurate production reports. This has led to significant enhancements in overall productivity and improved customer service."
The WHSe-LINK software links barcode and RF technologies to provide paperless, real-time, and advanced WMS functionality. In combination with Psion Teklogix' 7535 handheld devices, WHSe-LINK provides efficient system directed tasks for enhanced user productivity and drives inventory tracking to the floor level.
The 7535 is a rugged handheld designed to perform in the harshest conditions in the warehouse, manufacturing facility, yard, distribution centre or port environment. It delivers reliable performance in the toughest environments and is able to withstand multiple drops from a height of five feet onto concrete. This rugged design enables it to meet customers' real-time communications needs in almost any work situation. The 7535 also utilizes Windows CE .NET and Intel XScale allowing it to be tailored to the exact needs of a mobile workforce.
