DHL, Plantation, Fla., a leading global express delivery and logistics company, announced plans to build its largest U.S. on-airport service center facility at the Charlotte Douglas International Airport in North Carolina. DHL expects to invest $6 million in the development of the 80,200-sq.-ft. facility, consolidating four Charlotte, N.C.-area facilities into a single location.
The new facility will handle domestic and international parcels as well as palletized and container freight. It will have a handling capacity of 15,000 letter and parcel shipments per hour, increasing DHL’s local throughput capacity by 15 percent. The service center will initially employ at least 175 people when fully operational in April 2006. The $6 million investment includes a 10-year lease, airport-related costs, construction of the facility, and capital improvements.
