Nationwide Partnership to Deliver America's Favorite Pastime to U.S. Troops Serving Overseas Through Operation Slugger

WHAT: This Thursday, a special shipment of donated baseball equipment and other sporting goods bound for U.S. troops in Iraq and Afghanistan will be picked up at VFW Post #1896 in Jamaica, NY by DHL. Coordinated in partnership with Louisville Slugger, USA Cares, VFW and AUSA, the nationwide effort seeks to boost troop morale by providing gear for recreational activities. The equipment is currently being collected at the VFW Post as part of Operation Slugger, a nationwide drive to collect more than 20 tons of "gently used" and new sporting goods. The donated equipment will be picked up by DHL and transported to Louisville Slugger Field in Louisville, Ky., for a special on-field presentation on Flag Day before heading to troops overseas. WHO: Major General Richard S. Colt, Commanding General of the 77th Regional Readiness Command will hand the shipment off to DHL and be available for on-site interviews about Operation Slugger. Deputy Commander Colonel Margrit Farmer and Command Sergeant Kenny Hill of the 77th Regional Readiness Command will also be in attendance. DHL personnel involved in the initiative will also be available for interviews.
