In releasing the company’s first quarter results, executives from Big Dog Holdings, Inc. (LOCATION), a developer and retailer of branded, lifestyle consumer products, said the company had signed a 10-year lease on a build-to-suit 229,500 sq.-ft. distribution center just outside of Charlotte, N.C. The facility is scheduled to be completed by the fourth quarter 2006. Big Dog expects to begin shipping from the new DC in January 2007. The new facility will reportedly provide additional capacity for the Company's continued growth and allow it to achieve cost efficiencies not available in its current distribution center in Santa Fe Springs, Calif.
For the quarter ended March 31, 2006, consolidated net sales for the company were $38.6 million, a 23% increase over the previous year. The growth was primarily driven by the addition of 63 new "Walking Company" stores, which includes 45 "Steve Shoes" stores, a recent acquisition. The company reported a net loss of $3.1 million for the period, compared to a loss of $2.4 million in the previous year. In total, Big Dog has a total of 304 stores
