WESTERVILLE, Ohio-Walmart Canada has signed a five-year extension, until 2013, to its contract with Supply Chain Management (SCM), an Exel company.
In Canada, SCM provides dedicated transportation, logistics and value-added services to Walmart’s 312 stores and super centers across the country.
SCM operated five distribution centers totaling five million square feet to support Walmart’s ambient supply chain. Products handled within the facilities include general merchandise, dry grocery items and imports.
SCM also coordinates all outbound transportation activities and directs a regionally dedicated fleet of 150 tractors and 350 drivers delivering products from distribution centers to Walmart stores. SCM was acquired by Exel in 2004 and operates multiple distribution centers in Mississauga and Cornwall, Ontario, and Calgary, Alberta.
Dan Gabbard, president of SCM, explains, “We strive to identify efficiencies that contribute to Walmart’s bottom line, so it can continue to serve millions of Canadians and grow its business.”
