Cephalon, Inc., an international biopharmaceutical company, has selected ADT Security Services Inc., a unit of Tyco Fire & Security (Boca Raton, Fla.), to develop a radio-frequency (RFID) pilot program for tracking branded pharmaceuticals throughout the supply chain. The pilot provides end-to-end visibility of Cephalon’s products as they move from the point of manufacture through the pharmaceutical supply chain and ultimately to consumers.
Cephalon is deploying RFID to track the movement of its products, manage inventories and protect the safety of patients by helping ensure they are getting the correct medicines. The ADT RFID solution will also help Cephalon meet tagging requests from major retailers and from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. ADT will supply its Sensormatic Agile 2 readers and antennas, as well as testing services, including RFID label preparation, evaluation and placement. ADT’s compliance lab will also run conveyor, portal and dock door tests to ensure optimum performance of the Cephalon RFID system.
