Clark Material Handling Co. is once again manufacturing lift trucks at its headquarters in Lexington, Ky. It recently unveiled the first two lift truck models it is producing in the United States, the NPR and ESM. These models are the beginning of an overall strategy by Clark and its parent company, Young An, to re-establish manufacturing, truck modification, and R&D operations in Lexington.
Dennis Lawrence, president and CEO of Clark North America, says, “The resumption of manufacturing in Lexington represents a historical milestone for us. This will allow Clark to design and manufacture products in North America specifically for our market. Our long-term goal is to develop a world-class manufacturing environment that our dealers and customers can be very, very proud of. While these two models represent a rebirth of manufacturing for Clark North America, it is not the end, with time and increasing sales volumes, we could be looking at additional models for assembly down the road.”
Clark’s Lexington operation encompasses a nine-acre campus that includes two buildings that house manufacturing, sales and marketing, engineering, finance, IT, and dealer support. Additionally, Clark has an 184,000 sq.-ft. parts distribution center in Louisville, Ky.
