Rapid Rack Industries, Inc. (City of Industry, Calif.), a manufacturer of shelving rack and workbench industry for more than 75 years, announced that it experienced no lost time injuries last year.
The company rewards employees for no lost time with its safety incentive program. “Safety is a top priority at Rapid Rack due to our involvement in such an intensive labor industry,” said Claude Hayes, executive vice president. “We have 155 workers in 15 different departments. Each department must work together and follow all the rules and regulations in order to create a safe workplace.”
Plant workers operate machinery that fold, punch, rivet and sheer steel. They hang parts to be painted on overhead conveyor systems, operate manual and automatic washers, pack, operate lift trucks, paint, weld, and perform electrical duties. Other types of jobs include steel coil loaders, shipping and receiving personnel, tool and die specialists and maintenance personnel.
The plant implements several programs that educate, train and develop the employee workforce. These programs include an injury illness prevention program (IIPP), hazard communication program, personal protective equipment program, safety handbook, code of safe practice and more.
Managers also perform routine inspections and audits, and have an extensive accident investigation process. They identify all potential hazards in every employee’s work environment.
