GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., Siemens Logistics and Assembly Systems introduces SortDirector® version 5.0, software for advanced material flow in the automated distribution-center environment. SortDirector, a Warehouse Control System (WCS) software package, provides strategic routing and sorting of cartons or containers within a conveying and sorting system.

The modular software is designed to optimize container movement through order-selection zones, provide real-time control of the sorters, and provide shipping-consolidation functionality. SortDirector 5.0 includes expanded features for optimizing the routing of cartons through order-fulfillment zones, wave planning tools, split-case planning, pick-ticket and label printing, and ostentation logic for reverse-route trailer loading.

"SortDirector operates in conjunction with light- and voice-directed picking systems to provide an integrated solution from order fulfillment to shipping," says George Feigley, director of Software Application Engineering for Siemens L&A.

SortDirector runs on a standard PC, utilizes the Windows® operating system, and comes with a standardized interface to WMS software packages.
