The 2004 Supply Chain Executive Retreat will be at the Royal Palms Hotel and Casitas, Phoenix, Arizona USA, on 25-27 February 2004. This retreat offers an opportunity for executives to share their experiences, challenges, and successes. Speakers participating to date include The Honorable Diane Morales, Deputy Under Secretary of Defense (Logistics & Materiel Readiness), United States Department of Defense; David A. The Honorable Diane K. Morales was confirmed as the Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Logistics and Materiel Readiness (DUSD(L&MR)) on July 12, 2001. In this position she is responsible for policy and oversight of the military departments' logistics activities. As the DUSD (L&MR), she serves as one of two senior Deputy Under Secretaries to the Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition, Technology and Logistics, overseeing policy for the Department of Defense (DoD) in the specific functional areas of material management, maintenance, supply chain integration, transportation, logistics, electronic commerce, installations and environment. Her numerous areas of responsibility include reconfiguring the current logistics operational system to support a new defense strategy and force structure, depot maintenance and base closure issues.
Prior to her appointment by President Bush, Ms. Morales was president of DMS, Inc., a management consulting services firm focused primarily on public and commercial logistics operations and systems planning.
From 1990 to 1993, Ms. Morales served as Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Logistics, and coordinated a comprehensive restructuring of defense logistics operations to improve performance and reduce business costs by $70 billion over seven years. Logistics reengineering initiatives included integrating logistics policy, regulations, procedures and introducing commercial business practices. Ms. Morales served in this capacity during Operation Desert Storm and played a substantial role in addressing airlift and sealift requirements.
Roundtable Discussions – These facilitated discussions will offer opportunity for attendees to discuss and debate these important issues amongst themselves in smaller groups. The program allows everyone to attend all three discussion topics.
