Required for international ports is a security assessment to identify likely risks for ships and the port facilities and to have plans created and implemented for protection commensurate with posed level of threat.

Hamburg, Europe’s second largest port, will be in compliance, according to Dr. Jurgen Sorgenfrei, the Port’s director. “Our port, and many other water traffic entries to the European Continent, have been taking measure for the maintenance and tightening up of security based on the implementation of internationally binding regulations for the prevention of terrorist attacks on ships and port facilities,” he says.
