Staples Inc. announced plants to build a $40-million distribution and fulfillment center on 45 acres in the Beloit (Wis.) Gateway Business Park. The 450,000-sq.-ft. facility is scheduled to open next fall and will employ 200 people.
According to local news reports, incentives offered by Wisconsin and the city of Beloit totaled $4 million, $3.2 million in tax credits. The city will also provide $2.5 million in direct developer incentives that will help the company purchase the land.
"It was the decent incentive package that swayed the company," said Mike Mooney, chairman of NAI MLG Commercial Inc., Milwaukee, the owner of the Gateway Business Park. Another factor in the selection of the site is the business park’s location at the intersection Interstate 90 and Interstate 43.
