Siemens Energy & Automation's Airport Logistics Division (Atlanta), won a $12 million contract from Hensel Phelps Construction Co. (Greeley, Colo.) to expand the in-line screening system at the Orlando International Airport.
Siemens will provide 5,000 feet of baggage handling conveyor, 18 high-speed diverters and sort-matrices for 10 Explosive Detection Systems (EDS). This system is designed to make check-in easier for passengers and to free-up space in the terminal. It is expected to be completed in May 2007.
"We chose Siemens because of their unique ability to deliver a high-quality, integrated solution on a very aggressive project schedule," said Mike Choutka, Vice President and District Manager of Hensel Phelps Construction.
The Orlando International Airport served more than 34 million passengers in 2005. It is the fourth largest airport in the U.S. for domestic origination and destination.
