Raymond expects the consolidation to be completed in the first quarter of 2010. The Brantford plant will remain idle for “an undetermined length of time,” Raymond says. The move will eliminate 250 positions in Brantford but create more than 100 jobs in Greene.
“Raymond has made the strategic decision to consolidate all of its Class II lift truck manufacturing to support the healthy future of the company and its more than 1,800 employees,” says Jim Malvaso, president and CEO of Raymond. “This change allows us to continue developing innovative solutions that best serve our customers and their needs. Every employee in our Brantford operations has been an incredible asset to the Raymond Corp. This decision did not come easily, and we thank them for their many contributions.”
Raymond notes it will continue to maintain a presence in Canada through G.N. Johnston Equipment Co. Ltd., a Raymond Sales and Service Center.
