In January the former Distribution and Industry Group of Siemens Logistics and Assembly Systems Inc. opened for business as Dematic Corp. (Grand Rapids, Mich.). Although the name is new, the company has been in business for nearly 70 years, building a reputation for innovation and market leadership. For example, Dematic reports that it exceeded its first quarter sales targets (October through December 2005) based in part on burgeoning sales of its innovative package conveyor, the C-L100. This conveyor uses distributed process controls to put intelligence at the point of use making it more flexible and configurable than conventional conveyors.
“Dematic Corp. will stay focused on innovation and customer service,” said Prashant Ranade, president and CEO. “First, we will leverage the extensive experience and technical knowledge of our outstanding employees who have already secured a number one market position in the U.S. Second, through a nationwide network of company-owned direct sales and engineering offices, we will stay close to our customers to quickly and efficiently address their needs.”
As a systems integrator, Dematic delivers a full range of products and services, from individual products and systems to complete turnkey solutions as a general contractor as well as complete after-sales and service. Dematic Corp. is affiliated with Dematic GmbH & Co. KG of Offenbach Germany and is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Siemens AG. In 2005, the company had a business volume of more than $1 billion and 4,500 employees worldwide.
