Proview International Ltd. (Shanghai), one of the world’s top display manufacturers, has successfully implemented a radio frequency identification (RFID) system from Manhattan Associates (Atlanta) at its factory in Shenzhen, China. The implementation allows Proview to meet the RFID mandates of Best Buy Co., Inc. (Minneapolis), ahead of schedule.
Proviews’s legacy system at its Shenzhen manufacturing facility didn’t have the capability to handle RFID generated data and the EPC functionality required to meet the RFID-tagging mandate. The company approached several international supply chain solution providers to identify the right solution—one that would provide low total cost of ownership and allow Proview to easily scale the solution to support additional RFID equipment and production lines with very little help from the solution provider and with minimal impact on current processes.
Manhattan Associates’ RFID solution integrates with Proview’s legacy system to provide complete visibility at a serial number level. Serial numbers and EPC numbers are stored in the system so that the user can easily cross-reference a serial number to its EPC number. The data is integrated back to the legacy system to generate reports for internal use or advance shipment notices for retail customers. To minimize the impact on current processes, new process flows incorporate the current shipping label with the RFID smart label, so no additional work is required to apply RFID labels. Additionally, the RFID-tagging process can be moved to any production line in the facility, giving Proview the flexibility to conduct RFID-tagging on any available line.
"Providing excellent customer service is always part of our business strategy. We expect the successful launch of the RFID solutions at our Shenzhen facility will further enhance our partnership with our retail partners," said Morris Wang, vice CEO and president of Proview.
"This is the first RFID solution we’ve implemented in China, and it has helped us to further demonstrate our leadership in the global supply chain market," said Jeff Baum, Manhattan Associates’ senior vice president of International Operations. "We’ve developed RFID Solutions to be easily implemented with existing systems or as part of our integrated suite of Supply Chain Solutions, including Manhattan Associates’ own Warehouse Management and Trading Partner Management solutions."
