Women in Logistics to be Honored

April 11, 2014
The goals of this program are to help minimize obstacles to full industry participation and to celebrate career achievement for women in the field.

Women employed in the trucking industry are headed for the spotlight thanks to the new “Distinguished Woman in Logistics” award, established by The Women In Trucking (WIT) association and sponsored by transportation software provider TMW Systems.  This new honor builds on the success of WIT’s “Influential Woman in Trucking” award program sponsored for the past four years by Navistar International Corporation, and its annual “Salute to Women Behind the Wheel. The new focus highlights and honors notable women active in the broader field of logistics, a discipline that overlaps and strongly influences the trucking industry in North America.

“Logistics” has been defined as that part of the supply chain process that plans, implements and controls the efficient flow and storage of goods, services and related information, from the point of origin to the point of consumption, in order to meet the customers’ requirements. The scope of industry participation that would qualify a potential candidate for consideration for this award broadly encompasses high-performing women in the warehousing, traffic and shipping, third-party logistics and supply chain management fields, as well as trucking, rail and maritime cargo operations in North America.

The award program will be officially launched during the “Women in Logistics” session to be held during the Transportation Intermediaries Association (TIA) “Great Ideas” Conference & Exposition, April 9-12 in Tucson, Ariz. Candidacy guidelines, nomination procedures and forms for the first annual Distinguished Woman in Logistics award can be found at: http://www.TMWSystems.com/LogisticsWomanAward. Nominations may be submitted until Oct. 31, 2014, and will be judged by a panel of industry notables from logistics and transportation media, logistics service providers and trade association leadership.

The first annual Distinguished Woman in Logistics award will be presented during the 2015 TIA Conference & Exposition.
