The MOU establishes an alliance of cooperation between the two agencies and focuses on promoting trade between Asia and the U.S. through the Suez Canal. Specific terms of the MOU aim at encouraging increased use of an all water route that links U.S. East Coast ports with the Asian region.

“This kind of cooperation will help facilitate trade between Asia and the Indian subcontinent and the Port of Virginia,” says the VPA’s deputy executive director, J.J. Keever. He calls the connection between the two entities a reliable, safe and economical route.

VPA owns and operates four general cargo facilities: Norfolk International Terminals, Portsmouth Marine Terminal, Newport News Marine Terminal and the Virginia Inland Port in Warren County.
