Negotiated between the Union and ABF Freight System, Roadway Express, USF Holland, and Yellow Transportation, the contract serves as a model for the entire industry. The four companies involved in the negotiations employ 80% of all Teamsters covered by the Agreement.

Figures furnished by the Motor Freight Carriers Association—the national trade association representing the unionized general freight carriers—indicate that these four trucking companies serve 2.5 million customers in all 50 states, transporting 26.3 million tons of freight over 2.2 billion miles each year.

Timothy P. Lynch, Association president, noted, “Going into these negotiations, both sides understood that maintaining customer confidence was vital to maintaining the economic vitality of the companies and job security for their employees. We achieved that goal with an early settlement and now, an overwhelming ratification vote.”
