Notice of the enforcement was in CBP’s August 15, 2004 “Required Advance Electronic Presentation of Cargo Information,” which not only spoke of the need for truck carriers to electronically sent advance cargo information but specified the requirement for drivers to carry their FAST Cards.
Shippers, their carriers and drivers should be aware that there are separate applications required for Canadian and Mexican FAST programs. Presently, Northern Border FAST applications are taking approximately six week for processing, while those for the Southern Border FAST program are taking about two weeks, according to CBP.
