Novetex Spinners Ltd., the world’s largest single-site woolen spinner, has begun implementing Gen 2 radio frequency identification (RFID) technology for receiving, cycle counting and distribution at its Zhuhai warehouse. The textile company expects to gain real-time visibility of raw materials and product inventory, which should also help operating efficiency to the warehouse when fully deployed.

RFID tag manufacturer UPM Rafsec will supply the tags through Supply Chain and Logistics Technology Holdings Ltd., a recent joint venture with the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. The Novetex implementation is the first Gen 2 RFID initiative in the Hong Kong and South China region, according to UPM Rafsec.
