Make sustainability more understandable

To give trading partners a common way of talking about packaging and sustainability, The Consumer Goods Forum issued a report titled “A Global Language for Packaging and Sustainability.” It offers a common framework and measurement system trading partners can use to help them make more informed decisions about their packaging.

The report was developed with the help of 84 stakeholders, including manufacturers, retailers, packaging converters, trade associations, academics and consultants. Leading the effort were The European Organization for Packaging and the Environment  (EUROPEN),  the Grocery Manufacturers Association (GMA) and the Sustainable Packaging Coalition (SPC).

“This is the first of many planned outcomes from the Sustainability Workstream in the Consumer Goods Forum,” said Sir Terry Leahy, Tesco CEO, who co-sponsors this program with Paul Polman, CEO of Unilever. “It’s an ěmportant first step, and future work will build on the foundation it provides. We look forward to many more successful projects emerging from this program.”

For more information or to obtain a copy of the report, contact Julian Carroll, EUROPEN, at packaging@europen.be; Katrin Recke, AIM, at katrin.recke@aim.be; or Sabine Ritter, The Consumer Goods Forum, at s.ritter@theconsumergoodsforum.com.
