Kids Can Track Santa’s ‘Supply Chain’

On Dec. 24, the NORAD Tracks Santa Web site will stream videos, captured by “Santa Cams,” from numerous cities along Santa’s journey. Beginning at midnight (MST) on Dec. 24, visitors to the NORAD site can watch Santa prepare his sleigh, check his list and prepare for his journey.

Children can also track Santa through Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Flickr, and TroopTube.mil by typing “@noradsanta” into the search engine.

OnStar is also getting in on the action by providing live Santa updates to its subscribers when they push the blue OnStar button while driving on Dec. 24. Children can also track Santa through Google Maps and Google Earth.

The Air Force has tracked Santa every year since 1955, when a child called the Continental Air Defense Command Operations Center in Colorado Springs, Colo., to ask about the whereabouts of Santa. The child had dialed a misprinted telephone number in a newspaper advertisement.

The tradition was continued by NORAD when it was formed in 1958.
