Longaberger Outsources Customer Fulfillment to Exel

Exel, a provider of third-party logistics (3PL) services, has begun management and operation of The Longaberger Company’s customer fulfillment center in Frazeysburg, Ohio. Longaberger is a maker of handcrafted baskets.

In this role, Exel oversees and manages all elements of Longaberger’s order fulfillment. The solution maintains product quality, while increasing order accuracy and reducing lead times. Planned improved packaging will ensure box sizes fit orders precisely, provide better protection during shipping and improve overall shipping economics and efficiencies. Exel will handle fulfillment through Longaberger’s major sales channels including the Web and 45,000 independent home consultants nationwide.

The new relationship is part of Longaberger’s initiative to leverage the expertise of specialized partners, allowing it to concentrate on expanding product lines and making significant investments in operations to reduce energy consumption and improve customer service. “This partnership is a continuation of our strategy to focus efforts on internal strengths and find partners whose expertise can improve our customer service,” says Robin Crossman, president of The Longaberger Company.

Longaberger ships products direct to customers nationwide from its customer fulfillment center, which is located in the same manufacturing campus as its basketmaking facility in Central Ohio.
