APL and Con-way Launch Guaranteed Ocean Service
Any U.S. destination served directly by Con-way Freight will now be eligible for a through service, day-definite guarantee for less-than-container-load (LCL) freight originating in China. Going under the title Oceanguaranteed, the program guarantees transit time and delivery date. A 20% discount on the cost of the shipment applies if the guarantee is not met (subject to certain terms and conditions). Carrier representatives point out the guarantee and discount apply to the complete move, modes are not handled separately.
APL Logistics will provide in-country services on the China end, including scheduling, booking, documentation, regulatory notification, staging and consolidation of LCL shipments. It will tender shipments to the ocean line, APL, for ocean carriage to the Port of Los Angeles.
Initial service will be offered from Hong Kong, Shenzhen and
Shanghai. Expansion plans focus on the Asia side first with
potential for extending to other Asian origins outside China.
