Port Everglades Has a New “Sister”
Broward County (Florida) Major Lois Wexler and Port Everglades Director Phillip C. Allen signed an agreement officially linking Port Everglades to the Port of Marseille, France as an International Sister Seaport.
Under the agreement, both ports will commit to the free exchange of information pertaining to the cargo and cruise industries of each port. They will also share historical statistical information, planned seaport infrastructure developments and general marketing research aimed at increasing cruise and cargo traffic at both ports.
Port Everglades has similar agreements in place with the ports of Olbia, Italy and Xiamen, China.
Port officials noted that a direct service by Hapag-Lloyd connects Port Everglades and Marseille. The French container line CMA CGM also has a presence at Port Everglades. And, the container line Maruba calls at both ports.
