Union Pacific Begins to Build in San Antonio

At the outset the new terminal is designed to handle 100,000 trailers each year with potential to grow to 250,000 trailers and containers annually. The new facility sits between rail lines that travel to and from the West Coast and Mexico. The aim is to have the 300-acre rail port ship and receive household goods and other freight to support retailers and distribution centers in the area as well as automotive parts for the new San Antonio Toyota plant.

It is anticipated that the new Union Pacific (UP) facility will help ease congestion issues within the San Antonio area since the intermodal terminal is located outside city limits. Currently annually as many as 80,000 trucks move to rail yards within San Antonio for picking up and dropping off containers and trailers.
