Redevelopment Targets Intermodal Hub

CenterPoint Properties is partnering with the Kansas City Southern Railway (KCS) to develop a 370-acre intermodal facility that will be operated by the KCS and an 830-acre industrial park. The Richards-Gebaur Airport currently sits on a majority of the site, says CenterPoint. KCS has 11,340 feet of mainline track bordering Richards-Gebaur and currently operates an automotive distribution facility on the property.

Phase 1 of the redevelopment plan includes any necessary ground remediation. Infrastructure and utility installations will be started to prepare the site for up to 3.5 million square feet of warehouse and distribution facilities, said CenterPoint. Construction will also begin on the KCS intermodal facility.

“As import and domestic traffic volumes continue to grow both south from Mexico and north from Canada, CenterPoint-KCS Intermodal Center will become an economically viable location for a variety of distribution-related customers,” said Fred Reynolds, senior vice president of development at CenterPoint.

The automotive distribution facility on the property currently handles 70,000 cars a year, including operations of Mazda North America.
