Union Pacific to Build a $90 Million San Antonio Terminal

Not only will the new terminal handle the usual movement of trailers and containers, but also it will serve for the movement of auto parts for the new Toyota plant in San Antonio. The new facility will combine advanced computer systems and technology to coordinate all movement of trucks, trailers, railcars and containers. It’s claimed that with the use of the technology, a truck entering or leaving the intermodal terminal will just need to stop at the gate for 60 seconds at the most. The national average for such a gate stop is 4 minutes.

UP is aiming at supporting future growth at the new terminal that will process more than 100,000 trailers per year. It’s anticipated that the new terminal will help take 80,000 trucks per year off crowded I-10 between San Antonio and Houston.

Construction is slated to begin in 2007, with completion in 2008.
