American Raises Fuel and Security Charges
American Airlines Cargo will increase its fuel surcharge to 50 cents per kilogram for most U.S.-origin international shipments. Domestic fuel surcharges will rise from 18 cents per pound to 20 cents per pound. Both changes are effective February 17, 2006.
The fuel surcharge will be applied on shipments on a per kilogram or per pound basis for most non-U.S. origin shipments, unless the adjustment is not allowed for regulatory reasons.
American’s Priority Parcel Service will also increase its fuel surcharge from $4.00 per shipment to $5.00 per shipment from the U.S.
On March 1st, American will also adjust its minimum security surcharge for domestic and international shipments. A minimum fee of $6.00 will be assessed for U.S. domestic freight shipments and a minimum fee of $15.00 will be assessed for international shipments. Priority Parcel Service shipments will increase security surcharges to $5.00 per shipment.
