Infrastructure Damage Confined, Say Railroads

North American railroads serving the Gulf Coast region reported service had been restored to many of their lines in the area within a week of the disaster. The most severe infrastructure damage was confined to an area along the coast, in most cases. Bridges were a particular concern.

Traffic normally interchanged at New Orleans moved through Memphis, St. Louis, Chicago and other gateways.

Embargoes were in effect into New Orleans, Gulfport and Mobile, but other areas were seeing service restored as debris was cleared from rail lines and repairs were made.
