DHL Beefs Up U.S. Infrastructure

Scheduled for completion in Fall 2006, the new facility at Allentown, Pennsylvania, will be the principal DHL distribution center for the region, with particular covers for Connecticut, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Washington, D.C., eastern Pennsylvania, New York, and sections of West Virginia and Massachusetts. By the end of 2006, DHL expects to have 57 stations serviced by the facility, with daily truck runs for it to 10 regional hubs located throughout the country.

To employ the newest technology, the new facility seeks to provide customers with consistency in processing of shipments through rapid and accurate sortation. The facility will be able to handle 40,000 letters/50,000 parcels per hour.

Too, the company has moved to expand its U.S. contract logistics division, DHL Solutions, by combining and including the logistics activities of three previously separate business units. Now under the global DHL Solutions umbrella are Express Logistics, Airborne Logistics Services and Solutions.
