Warehousers Hit Back at BNSF Demurrage Charge Changes

BNSF says its new rates offer incentives for faster turns on rail-controlled carload equipment. The new rules specify that demurrage be calculated on each car instead of averaging debits and credits. With a few exceptions, each car for loading will receive one credit and each car for unloading will receive two credits. Further, according to the railroad, starting on the third day, cars being held will accrue excess charges of $150 per day.
